Deforestation-free supply chains (ELKE)
The project focused on promoting deforestation-free livestock farming and green finance in Ecuador. This project is designed to tackle the pressing issue of deforestation within agricultural supply chains, particularly in the provinces of Manabí and Esmeraldas. The primary objectives include reducing deforestation through the development of sustainable production techniques, enhancing the capacities of smallholder farmers, and creating financial incentives for the adoption of deforestation-free practices. These efforts are crucial for ensuring that agricultural practices do not contribute to the loss of Ecuador’s valuable forest ecosystems. Furthermore, the project strongly emphasizes gender equality, environmental protection, and the importance of collaboration with local governments and the private sector. By fostering these partnerships, the project aims to secure long-term sustainability and resilience within the targeted agricultural supply chains.
