Flood and Drought Mitigation and Management Sector Project

This ADB financed project addresses climate change risks and aims to improve livelihoods of agricultural communities within the provinces of Bolikhamxai, Khammouan, and Vientiane Capital. Main project focus is directed to enhancing of floodwater management, improving climate-resiliency of irrigation infrastructure, supporting dry-season crop diversification, and adopting climate-resilient farming practices.

 

Your Main Duties in this Role

  • Review of Houay Mak Hiew pilot fishway and include findings in subproject designs as appropriate.
  • Advise project stakeholders on ways of developing and constructing fishways and spillways to improve fish migration and provide related technical assistance/construction supervision.
  • Review available aquatic biodiversity and fisheries baseline information and conduct further field studies to analyze fish species composition and migratory patterns.
  • Contribute to the preparation of a proposed design process, technical standards and design guidelines suitable for selected subprojects, including cost, management measures, and maintenance requirements.
  • Develop training modules for fishway design and implementaton and deliver training sessions.
  • Develop a fishway monitoring concept to increase effectiveness.
  • Coordination, collaboration and reporting as required.

 

Your Educational Background

Master’s degree in fishery biology, environmental sciences, hydrology or or a closely related field of study in civil/agricultural engineering or equivalent and recognized professional engineering standing.

 

Your Expertise / Profile

Professional experience:
  • At least 10 years of experience in fishway design and asoosciated activities
  • At least 5 years of experience in tropical and subtropical developing countries
  • Experience in research in the field of fish migration, design, and construction of fishways in the South-East Asia, the Greater Mekong Region and/or Lao PDR
  • Experience in developing training modules and monitoring concepts related to fishway design and management
  • Experience from working in international projects funded by International Funding Institutions, in particular ADB

 

Duration of Assignment

The anticipated overall duration of the assignment is 9 months in the period between August 2024 and June 2029.
